Do Superstratum Products Really Work?

Even good remediation can leave behind mold spores but more importantly mycotoxins and lots of them. Most remediation companies are not equipped to handle anything other than the mold situation itself. Mycotoxins are rarely part of the conversation. And that leaves the homeowner or tenant on their own, dealing with an invisible but dangerous issue.

This company first came on my radar in 2019. They were known as Endurance BioBarrier at the time. Honestly, Endurance BioBarrier seemed a little too good to be true. Turns out this product line not only was off the charts incredible but it got even better!

Superstratum Everyday Cleaner and Building Cleaner

Hypochlorous acid or HClO is a strong but gentle disinfectant created with water, salt and electricity. Combining H²O (water) with Cl² (chlorine) and a charge of electricity creates hypochlorous acid. HClO is an oxidative agent. This means HClO can penetrate the cell membrane of microbes. Simply put, hypochlorous acid can clean microbes, like mold and bacteria, in a way that other chemicals are not capable of doing. And the best part is that is also breaks down mycotoxins, something mold products cannot do.

The Everyday Cleaner is formulated at 300ppms and the Building Cleaner is formulated at 500ppms. Otherwise the chemistry is identical.

This is not a magic cure-all for a widespread mold problem. In order to properly address mold growth on building materials like drywall, wood, carpet, etc…, it is still a good idea to remove and replace the moldy building material.

Toxic or Non-Toxic?

As non-toxic as you can get! It’s literally salt and water. It is safe for skin contact and doesn’t require a ventilated environment.  People, pets, and plants can all breathe easy knowing this is completely chemical free. True story – one of my cats LOVES the Everyday Cleaner and rolls in the areas I clean right after.

Superstratum Deodor Bomb

Mycotoxins can spread through the air. This means they can hide deep in hidden recesses of the home where you can’t see. Superstratum Deodor Bombs are a unique delivery system of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) gas. ClO2 gas is a powerful oxidizer that breaks down odors, mycotoxins, and VOCs.

Cons of Superstratum Deodor Bomb

You do need to leave the home for 12 or so hours and the bombs work best at night which would mean a hotel stay or another safe sleep space. I don’t see this as a con but instead a small inconvenience for a healthy home.

You need to remove any PCO purification devices. Failure to do so will cause damage to the purifiers.

Toxic or Non-Toxic?

It breaks down into a salt. That means you don’t have to worry about residual chemicals affecting your sensitivity. However, you still want to wear an N-95 mask or respirator when setting the bombs and removing them. It is also important to air the house out. While the by-product is non-toxic, the gas itself is a lung irritant.

Superstratum Endurance Coating

The backbone of the Superstratum Endurance Coating are smart polymers. A Smart Polymer is a high-performance, stimuli-responsive acrylic polymer that adapts to any environment. Unlike standard cleaners, water or moisture activate the smart polymers in Superstratum.

One gallon of Superstratum Endurance Coating covers approximately 600 square feet when you apply as directed. Believe it or not, more is not better here! A light coating is all you need.

That’s actually top secret. Technically it is proprietary. Either way, the ingredients are EPA registered antimicrobials with some smart polymers but the formula can’t be announced lest competitors swoop in.

Literally none when applied correctly. If you saturated as opposed to mist, the coating will not absorb properly so it is important to read the application instructions carefully.

Has Superstratum Conducted Any Third Party Testing of their products?

Yes! At Superstratum, they believe third-party lab data and analysis are essential for building trust and delivering effective solutions to their sensitized customers. I encourage you to read their white paper which is on their website.

In January of 2023, Michael Pinto from WonderMakers Environmental contracted with Medical Services Consultation P.A. (MSCPA) and working with Real-Time Laboratories evaluated the general efficacy of the Superstratum Building Cleaner product in removing mycotoxins in a biosafety level 1 laboratory. The straightforward process involved testing the Building Cleaner on an intentionally contaminated piece of oriented strand board (OSB). The results of the testing showed an overall reduction in mycotoxins on the difficult to clean OSB boards of 94% – 95%.

My Personal Experience With The Superstratum Product Line

I have used Superstratum both personally and professionally. One would think that a mold inspector would manage to avoid mold problems in their own home. Well let me tell you, we mold inspectors are also subject to the same old faulty plumbing issues as the rest of the population and unfortunately, mold does happen even to us.

I am sharing a situation that occurred in January 2022. It started off with a very wet discovery on the other side of a wall I shared with my neighbor. Seeing I was in a duplex, I could only really do so much when it comes to leak prevention in my neighbor’s home. Our shared wall happened to be our laundry rooms and her plumbing decided to fail. You can see how a leak even for a very short time can create a moldy mess.

As frustrating as this was, I knew Superstratum’s products were what I needed. I immediately sprayed the impacted area plus the four feet above, below, and around it with Superstratum Building Cleaner. I left it alone for about 45 minutes then allowed my trusted team to come in and remove the moldy drywall.

After the drywall was removed (obviously proper containment and remediation protocols were in place) I sprayed the Building Cleaner onto the remaining wood studs. I left it for about 15 minutes. Using a course cloth, I wiped each stud then allowed it to dry for 48 hours. That’s it. The studs look amazing.

Now it was time to apply the Superstratum Endurance Coating. It took all of 5 minutes to spray the wood studs and walk away. I have peace of mind knowing if there is another leak in that area that I should not have to worry about any mold growing.

Since then, I have assisted clients locally with what I call post remediation remediation. Basically I use the Superstratum system to clean up what the remediation companies have left behind which typically is an abundance of mycotoxins and (hopefully) inactive mold spores. The results have been nothing short of amazing for my clients. And it is very much a DIY treatment. Yes, I can perform the service for someone because I know what to do and how to do it so for me, it is a pretty quick process. But truly anyone can do this themselves which saves money and time waiting for a professional to come to you!

Beyond “mold events” Superstratum Everyday cleaner can be used on well, literally anything! I clean every surface in my home with it. It makes an amazing shower cleaner, floor cleaner, and counter cleaner. I even scrub the toilets with it. I also use the Endurance Coating on my showers, around plumbing, and on the caulking around sinks. I reapply every 45-60 days since these are high water environments.

Without a doubt this is one of the best product lines on the market. It is cost effective, safe for chemically sensitive individuals, easy to DIY, but most importantly, able to address not just mold but mycotoxins as well.
